Hampton Gustavus Anderson III, 91, of Anderson, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born July 29, 1932, in Anderson, SC, he was the first of four sons of the late Hampton Gustavus Anderson, Jr. and Alice Allen Anderson. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Bette Campbell Anderson, his grandson, Jonathan Kirk Davis, Jr., his two brothers, Richard “Dicky” Harrison Anderson and Bannister “Ban” Allen Anderson.
Hamp was a graduate of Boys High Class of 1950, a graduate of The Citadel Class of 1954, and a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He, along with his brothers, were the owners and operators of Anderson Auto Parts which was started by their father in the early 1940’s.
Hamp was a lifetime member of Central Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School, was an Elder, and a member of Koinonia Sunday School Class.
Hamp was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending his free time on the family farm with his children and grandchildren. He loved hunting, fishing, and all of his bird dogs.
He is survived by his sons, Hampton Gustavus “Andy” Anderson IV (Donna) and James Edward “Jimmy” Anderson; daughter, Elizabeth Anderson Davis; brother, Charles Robert “Bobby” Anderson (Mimi); sisters-in-law, Elsie Anderson, Vicki Anderson, Margaret Herndon, and Susan Campbell; grandchildren, Ashley Messina (Jonah), Hampton Anderson, Madison Anderson, Briggs Anderson, and Deva Anderson; great-grandchildren, J.J., Eliza Kirk, and Hampton Messina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Michael York and Rev. Noelle Read officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family will be at the home of Andy and Donna Anderson.
