He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Virginia (nee Nolden) and loving father of Geoffrey Cordes of Ketchum, Idaho; John H. Cordes, M.D. of West Hartford, Connecticut; and Barbara Selvey of Sturbridge, Mass. He was grandfather of six and great-grandfather of one. Bill was born 12/21/1921 in NYC to Elizabeth Deicken and Harry W. Cordes. The family moved to NJ in 1925 and settled in Ridgewood. He graduated from Ridgewood High School(class of 1939) and from the Citadel (Charleston, SC). He was an Army veteran who served in World War II in Italy. He was employed in the travel industry for many years, first with Grace Line, the Royal Viking Line, and finally as Director of Consumer Affairs for the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). He was a long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Monday, June 25 at 12 noon. A private interment will be held after the church service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to C.C.
