LUHRS, H. Eugene Mr. Harry Eugene Luhrs, 51, of Macon GA, and formerly of Charleston, died Thursday January 27 after a brave battle against pancreatic cancer. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary in Macon GA at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 30. In Charleston visitation will be from 6:00 to 8 :00 PM Monday at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 1, in the Summerall Chapel at The Citadel. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon GA, 31201 or to The Brigadier Foundation at The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston SC 29403. Gene, born in Charleston, was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A graduate of Bishop England High School he was awarded B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from The Citadel. He received a J.D. degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. Gene lived life to its fullest. He never passed the opportunity to share a beer or cigar with a friend. He and his wife Terri loved to travel . They attended all kinds of sporting events, especially in support of The Citadel football and baseball teams. He was a member of The Citadel Brigadier Foundation and Alumni Association. He was also a member of Intown Macon, Historic Macon, and the Georgia and American Bar Associations. He was in private practice. Survivors include his wife Teresa Luhrs, M.D. of Macon, mother Theresa Anderson Luhrs of Charleston, sisters Diane Luhrs and Nancy Wolf, both of Charleston, and brother David Luhrs of Chicago, IL, Godchild and niece Elizabeth Wolf of Charleston, Uncles and Aunts including Jimmy and Carolyn Anderson, James P. and Mary Luhrs, Joseph B. and Dorothy Luhrs, and Sylvia Anderson, all of Charleston, mother and father-in law Margaret and Harold Major, brother and sister-in-law Keith and Ginger Major, sister-in-law Cindy Major, nieces and nephews Traci Theodore, Micah Major, and Rachel Rush all of Summerville, and many cousins.
