Harold Bruce Glover, age 78, of Flowery Branch, Ga., passed away of cancer on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at his residence. He was the son of Allene Martin Glover and Harold Frank Glover, who preceded him in death as well as his infant sister Sidney Glover. He was the grandson of Emory Thomas and Mattie Brown Martin, and Joseph Emory and Fannie Davis Glover.
Mr. Glover was born in the old Downy Hospital in Gainesville, Ga., on Dec. 19, 1935. He was educated in the Gainesville City School system and was a graduate of Gainesville High School Class of 1954. He always said his adult life began when he chose to become a cadet at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, which proved to be the best two years of his youth. As the result of a hearing loss, he was denied any hopes of receiving a commission upon graduation, so he chose to complete his college degree by transferring to what was then Clemson Agriculture and Mechanical College, later to become Clemson University, with a B.S. degree in biology. Following graduation, he joined the National Guard, completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and served for six years in the National Guard.
His life’s work was devoted to Burroughs Wellcome Co., an English research and manufacturing pharmaceutical company where he served 34 years in sales, sales training and marketing of fine pharmaceuticals before retiring in 1994 as a senior executive representative. His great pleasure in retirement was his family, his golf, his genealogy work and history studies, and especially his volunteer service in the Longstreet Society of Gainesville as the secretary. He was proud to have received the 2013 Helen Dortch Longstreet Award.
Mr. Glover is survived by his wife of 53 years, Terry (Sara) Terhune Glover; sons, Bruce B. (Tina) and Emory R. (Anita) of Gainesville, Ga., Sidney A (Sherri) of Savannah; daughter, Ann M. Archer (Brian) of Mansfield Texas; grandchildren, Kerri and Chelsea Glover, Sidney Glover Jr., Nathaniel, Samantha and Heather Fuller, Tori and Emory B. Glover, Jonathan and Samantha Archer. Mr. Glover is also survived by his brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Sidney S. and Herbena Terhune of Ohio; sister-in-law, Sara Terhune of Florida; special person, Carl D. Bennett of Ohio; and many dear cousins, nephews and nieces.
