A memorial service to honor the life of H. Beckman “Beck” Schroder, 83, of Camden, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. The Reverends Steve Patterson, Frank Griffith and David Weaver will officiate. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 AC Skinner Parkway, Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Pt. Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607. Beck died Friday, November 17, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Rock Hill, SC, and is the son of the late Mary Louise Thomas Schroder and Herman Beckman Schroder, Sr. Beck was a graduate of the Citadel, a member of Band Company, the Brigadier Club and the Citadel Alumni Association. He was a US Army Veteran, and retired from E.I. DuPont after 35 years as a Senior Research Chemist. Beck was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, a member of the Golden Club and a former member of the Camden County Club. Beck took pleasure in his yard and especially in creating new varieties of camellias. He enjoyed golf, table tennis, sailing, swimming, diving and tennis. He also enjoyed all sports in which his grandchildren participated. The family would like to thank Dr. Carl Kearse and the caring nurses and respiratory therapists on Med I and ICU at Kershaw Health. The family would also like to thank nurse Jon and nurse Todd. Beck is survived by his wife, Marilyn Lefler Schroder, his daughters, Dawn Hill (Tommy) of Columbia, Tracy Carlton (Johnny) of Columbia, and Lori Arledge (Dennis) of Camden; nine grandchildren, John Beckman Arledge, Jacob Henry Arledge, Dennis Gordon Arledge, Jr., Matthew Thomas Hill (Kelly Polonus), Andrew Houston Hill, William Austin Hill, Georgia Carlton Altus (Jared), Beckman Louise Carlton and John Schroder Carlton. Beck is also survived by his sister-in- law and brother-in- law, Nancy and Ken Perrine, and nieces and nephews. Beck was predeceased by his parents; and infant granddaughter, Lindsay Hill.
