Gregory Roman Ulans, 67, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 14, 2013, while hiking in George Washington National Forest. He was surrounded by people who loved him dearly. Greg was a loving husband, deeply devoted dad and a cherished son, brother and friend, whose life touched many people. Whether he was hiking and camping in the mountains with his son, enjoying frequent family reunions with extended family, experimenting with a new “”Hunting Run”” recipe in his basement brewery or sharing stories, songs and laughs in his beloved backyard tree house, the lengthened shadow of Greg’s legacy spread across many lives. Following graduation from the Citadel, Greg served in the U.S. Army. After more than 30 years and earning an MBA from George Washington University, he retired from the federal government. However, he never truly retired, but continued working as a consultant for various companies. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Patrick School and with Chancellor Swim Team and his neighborhood HOA. Whatever the adventure, his enthusiasm, spirit and infectious humor stood as strong testament to a life well-lived. One of the greatest gifts is the gift of memories, of those, Greg left in abundance. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Ulans; son Christian Ulans; daughter Jen Ulans and friend Michael Burruss; father Roman Ulans; brother Joseph Ulans and wife Cindy; sisters Barbara Johnson and husband Robert, Marti Knieriem and husband John, Alex Kobezak and husband Ken, Julia Lim and husband Thian; granddaughter Paisley Burruss; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. A rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Spotsylvania. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. Tags: 1968
