Gilbert Bowman Bradham, M.D., of Charleston, died May 21, 2013, at home. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Summerall Chapel at The Citadel at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in Mark Clark Hall. J. HENRY STUHR, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements. He was born August 5, 1931, in Sumter, SC. Dr. Bradham was the son of Riley Augustus Bradham and Mabel Bowman Bradham. A 1952 honor graduate of The Citadel and a 1956 Graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina, Dr. Bradham was the Chief Resident of Surgery at the Medical College; he carried out his Fellowship in Surgical Cardiology at UCLA where he was also involved in research and computer science for both UCLA and The RAND Corporation. Following his position at UCLA, he returned to MUSC where he would practice for the next half century. He served in many roles at MUSC including Professor of Surgery, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Medical Director, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Vice President of Clinical Affairs, and Dean of Student Life. A prolific writer, Dr. Bradham published over 63 papers and wrote three books. A lifelong advocate for fitness, he spearheaded and was the driving force behind the Wellness Center at MUSC. He also served as Chairman of the Cooper River Bridge Run and the Chairman of the SeeWee to Santee Conservation Initiative. Dr. Bradham was a triathlete, windsurfer, sailor, master gardener, master scuba diver and black belt. He was also an incredible romantic, penning love letters to his wife, June, after each of their dates and for all of their 26 years of marriage. Dr. Bradham is survived by his wife, June Johnson Bradham, siblings; Riley Augustus Bradham, Jr., Amelia Bradham Kesling, Dr. Robert Randolph Bradham (Helen), and Peyton Welbourne Bradham (Bebe). Dr. Bradham is also survived by his children, Gilbert Bowman Bradham, Jr. (Stephanie), James Bramlett Wood Bradham (Landis), Riley Augustus Bradham, II (MeLynda), Charles William Branham, III (Renee), Theile Branham McVey (Ian), Tucker Jackson Branham and ten grandchildren.
