Gerard K. ‘Rod’ Stanford , a computer software executive whose career included 22 years with Oracle, Microsoft and SAP, died on Sept. 18. Born in Glen Rock on July 31, 1961, and died on Sept. 18, 2008, he was 47. He lived in Tinton Falls. The cause of death was complications of esophageal cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame R.C. Church, 359 Central Ave., North Caldwell. Visitation will be on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell. The interment will be private. Mr. Stanford grew up in England and attended St. John Fisher School in Surrey, England and, upon returning to the United States in 1977, moved to North Caldwell. After graduating from the Citadel in 1983, he was commissioned as a Navy officer and assigned to the Amphibious Base in Coronado, Calif. Mr. Stanford remained in the Navy Reserve and, after serving as a liaison officer in the Pentagon during Desert Storm, he eventually rose to the rank of a lieutenant commander and retired from the Reserves in 2001. In addition to his beloved girlfriend, Ms. Michelle Kuchta, Mr. Stanford is survived by his sisters and brothers, Alica Stanford, Patrice Boeckel, Christopher Stanford, Jeffrey Stanford, Gregory Stanford; his brothers-in-law, Mark Kornspan and Christopher Boeckel; his loving nephews, Max Stanford, Jonathan Stanford, Kyle Boeckel and Cameron Boeckel, and niece, Megan Boeckel.
