Gerald ‘Jerry’ Louis Johnson, 86, widower of Ann Paulk Johnson, entered into eternal rest on the evening of September 8, 2018. The relatives and friends of Jerry Johnson are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Hwy. 61. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM Tuesday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.
Jerry was born November 7, 1931, in Charleston, SC, the son of William Ackerman Johnson and Evelyn DeAntonio Johnson. He was a graduate veteran student of the Citadel, Class of 1959. He served with the United States Air Force and fought in the Korean War. Jerry was a Regional Sales Representative with Fram/Bendix and Quaker State Oil Company in Columbia, SC. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Charleston and became actively involved with the community. He served as President and Vice President of the Moreland Civic Club between 2003 and 2013. He was a dedicated and loyal citizen who loved his community. Jerry served on the Police Department Citizens Advisory Committe and organized the Moreland National Crime Night Out. Mayor Joe Riley recognized Jerry’s community involvement by proclaiming March 12, 2013 as ‘Jerry Johnson Day’.
Jerry is survived by three Sons: Gerald ‘Keith’ Johnson (Janet), David Carl Johnson (Justin), and Terry Louis Johnson (Susan); three Grandchildren: Sonnie Klubenspies (Sean), Tyler Johnson, and Darby Johnson; one Great-granddaughter, Caroline Rebecca Klubenspies; and his sister, Mary Frances Aytes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
