PORTLAND – Lt. Col. Gerald B. Worsham, USAF, retired, 78, formerly of Brewer, passed away Jan. 25, 2007, at Fallbrook Woods, Portland. He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Bamberg, S.C., the son of Duward and Gertrude Worsham. Upon graduation from Bamberg High School in 1946, he joined the U.S. Army and then attended and graduated from The Citadel in 1953. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Lt. Col. Worsham served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force he was stationed and lived in Korea, Maine, Frobisher Bay, Wyoming, Japan and Nebraska. After serving his country for more than 20 years, he retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in 1972, and settled with his family in Maine. Lt. Col. Worsham was a history enthusiast with a special interest in military history and the Civil War. He also loved music, playing bridge, reading and going to the movies. Lt. Col. Worsham took joy in his last years loving and caring for his gordon setter, McKenzie. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jean Welch Worsham; his brother, Ernest Worsham and his wife, Evelyn; his sister, Ann O’Quinn and her husband, Jake; his brother, John Worsham and his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Jill Worsham; his daughter, Melissa Rodrigue and her husband, David; his stepdaughter, Robin Laverdiere; and his stepdaughter, Kathie Ladd and her husband, John. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter, Caitlin; good friends, Stan and Sherry Hanscom of Herman and Luise Olsen of Brewer. Lt. Col. Worsham’s family thanks the staff of Fallbrook Woods and the Beacon Hospice staff and volunteers for the excellent care they provided. The family will receive visitors noon-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. the Rev. David Heald officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held after at Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
