George W. Brown, Jr. (“Mud”), age 89, of Tallahassee, Fla., died peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018, surrounded by family. Mud was born on June 9, 1929, in Tampa.
Mud was a devoted husband and father to his wife of 54 years, Doris A. Brown, their son George W. Brown, III of Tallahassee his fiancé Jennifer Fountain. As a resident of Tallahassee, he is remembered as someone that loved hunting, fishing, boating, woodworking and golfing with his friends and family.
Mud was the son of the late Dr. George W., Sr. and Elizabeth Brown. He graduated from Leon High School in 1947. He attended The Citadel and later graduated from the Florida State University. He then served in the Air Force for four years.
He retired from the Florida Department of Revenue on January 31, 1992, after thirty-five years of service where he helped create the first data center.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. Brown; sisters-in-law Vernon A. Butler and Theresa J. Andrews. He is survived by his son, George W. Brown, III and his fiancé Jennifer Fountain; brother-in law C. Bob Butler and wife Harriet Wilson Butler; sister-in-law Margie Seidel; nephew Robert Butler and his wife Heidi Updike Butler; brother-in-law Wilber Seidel and nieces Deborah Ann Barker and Lara Lee Seidel; and loving and supportive friends.
Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home at Riggins Road Chapel, Tallahassee. Graveside services will be on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 11:00 am at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to East Hill Baptist Church.
