George Thomas Dickie, 94, Died Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Born In The Epsom Community Of Franklin County On October 6, 1923, He Was The Son Of The Late Durwood Thomas Dickie And Sallie Louise Macon Dickie. He Was A Graduate Of Buies Creek Academy And Attended The Citadel. Mr. Dickie Served His Country In The United States Merchant Marines And The United States Army. After His Military Service, He Joined Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. He Was An Agent With Nationwide For 39 Years, Retiring In 1989. Mr. Dickie Was A Supporter Of Many Organizations In The Henderson Community. Among Those Were The Henderson Salvation Army And Kerr-Vance Academy Where He Served On The Boards Of Both Organizations. During His Retirement, For Over 13 Years, He Was A Volunteer With The Meals On Wheels Program. He Also Was A Volunteer At Maria Parham Medical Center. In 2015, He Participated In The Oral History Project For The State Archives North Carolina, Relating His Experiences In The Military. Mr. Dickie Was A Member Of The First Presbyterian Church Where He Served As A Deacon, Elder, And Sunday School Teacher. A Memorial Service Will Be Held At The First Presbyterian Church In Henderson On Saturday, September 29 At 2:00 Pm By Pastor Matthew Copple. He Is Survived By His Wife, Ann Evans Dickie; His Daughter, Martha Macon Dickie; His Son, Gregory Thomas Dickie And His Wife, Elizabeth Doane Dickie; And His Grandchildren, Laura Reid Dickie And James Grant Dickie And His Wife, Elizabeth Diggs Graeber. He Is Also Survived By His Sister-In-Law, Emma Lee Hawkins Dickie; Two Nieces And Four Nephews. In Lieu Of Flowers, Memorials May Be Made To First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Po Box 726, Henderson, Nc 27536. The Family Will Receive Friends In The Fellowship Hall Of The Church Following The Service.
