George “Pete” Hannan, 81, a resident of Annapolis for 30 years, died Friday, September 29, 2017 in his home. He was born August 30, 1936 in Newburgh, NY to the late George and Ida Hannan. Pete graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1959. He served honorably in the US Air Force with distinction in the 39th Air Search and Rescue Squadron while in Vietnam. He retired after 28 years of service. He proudly earned the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Service Stars. Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary “Angel” Hannan, sons Pete Hannan Jr. (Robin) of Missouri and Michael Hannan (Laura) of Illinois, daughters Cathi Berns (Tom) of Missouri and Stacey McMahon (Michael) of Florida, cousin Tommy Olivia of Highland Falls, NY. Grandchildren Michael, Connor, Sean, Ryan, Zachary, Jessica, David, Billy, Abby, and great grandchildren Rylie and Jack. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. His hobbies included fishing, collecting toy soldiers and stamps, studying military history, genealogy, and traveling. A viewing at 9:00 AM, followed by a Catholic Mass at 10:00 AM will be October 10, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel, 699 Washington Road, West Point, NY, burial with full military honors following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
