George Lowndes Weeks of Florence passed away on February 28, 2018. Born on August 14, 1929, in Florence, he was the son of Joseph Clayton and Harriet Peecksen Weeks. He graduated from The Citadel in 1950, where he played on the golf team. He served proudly in the Army during the Korean War. George was married for 56 years to Elsie Haynie Weeks, also of Florence. He was in the insurance business and was actively involved in his community. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, who will be remembered for his gentle nature and affable personality. Known by many as “Hoss,” he rarely met a stranger. He was a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Joseph Clayton, Jr., John Peecksen and William Lloyd Weeks, and his wife, Elsie. He is survived by his children, Clay Weeks (Kathryn) of Sumter, Ricky Weeks of Florence, and Linda Rogers (Jim) of Columbia; his grandchildren, Clayton Weeks (Anna Margaret), Rhett Weeks (Kathryn), Laurin Evans (Brett), Maggie Blocker (Jason), Margaret Rogers, Harriet Rogers and Helen Rogers; his great-grandchildren, Lowndes Weeks, Crosby Weeks, Dak Weeks, Anna Briggs Evans, Hadley Evans, Felder Evans and Haynie Evans. The family wishes to thank the staff of Florence Rehab and Nursing Center for their love and care. Funeral services will be held at Central United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018, and will be followed by a reception.
