George Frank Ploth, Sr., 75, of Summerville, SC, husband of Carol Miller Ploth, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 at Summerville Presbyterian Church at 1 PM. Burial will be private. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to USS Laffey DD-724 Association, c/o Edgar Walker, 2951 Colchester Ct., Abingdon, MD 21009 or Fallen Firefighters Foundation, PO Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727. Mr. Ploth was born February 17, 1940 in Hempstead, NY, a son of the late Richard M. Ploth and the late Elizabeth A. Ruland Ploth. His education included a BS from Southern Illinois University and a MS from The Citadel. George was a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy (Ret.) and a former Navy UDT diver, an instructor at Naval Mine Warfare School, Instructor at City Colleges of Chicago, and a lifetime member of USS Laffey Society. Mr. Ploth was the former Chief of C & B Fire Dept. He also served as a police dispatcher and a volunteer firefighter. He gave 38 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the Town of Summerville and was a longtime member of Summerville Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol M. Ploth of Summerville. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather to: son, George F. Ploth, Jr. (Hope) of Summerville; daughter, Kelly A. Younger (Tony) of N. Charleston; a brother, Bruce M. Ploth (Elizabeth) of Hamilton, NJ; three grandsons, Joshua R. Ploth-Olsen, Zachary T. Ploth-Olsen and Nicholas G. Ploth; two granddaughters, Meagen P. Ploth, and Britni Petersen; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia E. Ploth-Olsen. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Ploth; grandparents, Frank and Sarah Ploth, and Raymond and Florence Carmen.
