George F. Balk, husband of Carole Balk, entered into rest Sunday, December 7th, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Balk graduated from Richmond Academy and retired from Proctor & Gamble after 28 years. He enjoyed doing volunteer work at Shepard Community Blood Center and the downtown soup kitchen. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, where he had also attended services as a young boy. Mr. Balk was preceded in death by his father, Theodore F. Balk, Sr., and his mother, Claire Armstrong Balk; his four brothers, 1st Lt. Theodore F. Balk, Jr. USAAC, William Armstrong Balk, Robert Singleton Balk, and Thomas Morris Balk, and his daughter Catherine (Kitty) Prince. Additional survivors include his daughter, Christine Gralinski (Steve); his grandchildren, Heather and Courtney Hildenbrand and Austin Foust; his stepsons, Robert and Michael Schwartz, grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua, and Amanda; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Golden Harvest Food Bank. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 12th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection on Greene Street with Pastor David Hunter officiating.
