Gary More Ganson, 74, of Ashburn, VA passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at his home. Gary was born March 28, 1945 in Staten Island, New York. Survivors include his wife, Linda Salem; children: Gray Buchanan, Brittany Ganson, Devlin Ganson, and Brendan Ganson; brothers Craig (Elizabeth) and Howard or “Hutch” (Donna Jo), cousins Brooke Baker and Pam Rocchiccioli, nieces and nephews, and his in-laws, members of the Salem family. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Howard Ganson, Wanda or “Bunky” Lemmon, Step-Father Allen Lemmon, and son, Scott Buchanan. A graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, SC and Pensacola Flight School, Gary served in the Navy as a pilot stationed on the aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon his retirement from the Navy Gary worked in several sales ventures throughout his career. Upon retirement Gary served as a courier for the Loudoun Easterner and Inova Blood Donor Services. By nature, Gary was reserved and loved living in a world of books. An avid reader, he consumed history, suspenseful fiction, and biographies. He loved the writings of Pat Conroy, mainly because he remembered Pat Conroy as a student peer at the The Citadel. He enjoyed the quiet and serenity of nature. Gary granted people dignity in his social interactions. Non-judgmental, he never failed to treat others in a respectful manner. Gary struggled the last four years of his life; an invalid with dementia eroding a phenomenal mind, he never complained. As his quality of life progressively deteriorated, death ended his persistent struggle to battle his ravaging ailments. Visitation will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 Monday, December 30, 2019 from 11:00 – 1:00. A service will follow visitation at the funeral home. Burial at Union Cemetery 323 N. King St., Leesburg, VA 20175. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashburn Fire and Rescue, Meals on Wheels, Capital Caring Hospice, or the charity of choice.
