Frederick William Auld III, 87, a retired professional engineer, loving father and friend, died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a memorial gift to St. Paul Presbyterian Church, the Boy Scouts of America – Longhorn Council, the Fort Worth Presbyterian Night Shelter or a charity of choice . Fred W. Auld III was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Elberton, Ga., to Fred W. Auld Jr. and Margaret Mercer Auld. He graduated from Elberton High School and attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served with the 89th Chemical Mortar Battalion in northern Europe until the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to The Citadel and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1949. From 1949 until 1957 he worked for the Maxwell Steel Company in Fort Worth. From 1957 until 1991, he worked as a structural design engineer for General Dynamics and later Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth. On May 25, 1951, at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, he married Mary Ann Megan. They were happily married over 60 years. Except for several temporary work assignments in California, Oklahoma and Connecticut, they resided in the Fort Worth area. Fred was an active member in his church and community. He served as an elder and Sunday school leader at Oakhurst and St. Paul Presbyterian Church. He was a Boy Scout troop leader for many years in Richland Hills and Haltom City. He served on the board of directors of the Bridge Association – Fort Worth Urban Ministries. He loved to play golf and was a longtime member of Diamond Oaks Country Club. His family and friends were the centerpieces of his life. He loved to entertain at his home and hosted many swimming parties and gatherings. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann; and his son, Frederick “Rick” W. Auld. Survivors: Children, Robert Auld of Fort Worth, David Auld and his wife, Gail, of Orlando, Fla., Mary Elizabeth Hokit and her husband, Phillip, of Haslet, Emily Auld-Vick of Fort Worth, and Margaret Auld of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Ariel Beckey, Andrew Auld, John Auld, Meghan Perdue, Ian Auld, Stefan Auld, Hunter Vick, Ainsley Auld and Cole Vick; five great-grandchildren, Anna Beckey, Madeleine Beckey, Corinne Beckey, Isaac William Beckey and Monroe Auld; and many other loving relatives and friends.
