Frederick Minnich (USA RET. MAJ), 85, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Fred was a Pilot, a Master Aviator Helicopter Instructor Pilot who served his country for 20 years, flew two combat tours in Vietnam, then upon his retirement from the Army in 1982 he taught helicopter flight training for 8 years at Fort Rucker, Alabama. In 1990 Fred and Mary relocated back to Leavenworth where they first met and he worked for several defense contractors until 2010 when he completely retired to his farm. Fred was born 6 December 1937 in Daytona Beach, Florida, graduated from Marion Military Institute, The Citadel, and received his MBA from Troy State University. Aircraft, motorcycles, boats, westerns and his outdoor farmland activities fulfilled Fred’s love of life. He leaves behind his wife Mary E. Minnich, daughters: Kathy, Carrie, Kim, and sons: Sam, Tyler (Michelle), Marty, his sister Tinker, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Phyllis. Fred is a free spirit now flying with his angels. A private service will be held at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
