Frederick Leighton Rowan, Jr., 71, resident of Palatka, Fl died at Haven Hospice in Palatka, early Thursday , June 23, 2011 after an extended illness. He was a native of Quincy, Fl, son of the late Frederick L. and Tommye Alice Ayers Rowan and had made his home in Palatka for the past forty years. Prior to Palatka he had resided in Jacksonville, Fl. for many years. He was a graduate of the Citadel and also served in the US Air Force in Vietnam. He attended the University of Florida after completing his military service for post graduate studies. He was a past member of Azalea Chapter of Kiwanis and Palatka Heritage Society, and a member of both AICPA and FICPA. After his stroke twelve years ago, he enjoyed watching television and listening to music. Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-three years: Sharon Bedenbaugh Wester Rowan, Palatka, FL; three sons: Frederick L. Rowan, III (Cindy), Covington, LA, Edward Andrew Rowan (Kimberly), Jacksonville, FL, and Timothy Scott Wester, Interlachen, FL; one daughter: Dr. Karen Suzannah Rowan, CA; one brother: Thomas A. Rowan, Tallahassee, FL; one sister: Linda Rowan, Garland, TX; grandchildren: Sam, Hank, Ian, Chelsea and Danielle; and Jonathan and Harlow, his grandchildren of the heart Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at 2 P.M. at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Pringle officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, June 24, 2011, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.
