Frederick La Fayette Green, Jr. died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at home, surrounded by his large and loving family. Fred was born January 4, 1929 in Gables, S.C., the son of the late Kathleen Gainey and Frederick La Fayette Green. He grew up at Pawley’s Island, S.C. and was a 1951 graduate of The Citadel. He attained the rank of Major in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. In 1956, he married his beloved wife, the former Carol Elliott, and together they raised six children. He was a real estate broker with DeBordieu Real Estate from 1972 until his retirement in January, 2003. Fred was best known for his wry wit, his green thumb, and his expert fishing and hunting skills. He was very involved in the SCUTE program as well as the life of his church, All Saints Church, Waccamaw, serving on the Vestry and acting as Chairman of the Building Committee. In addition to his wife, his is survived by six children and their spouses, Suzanne and Louis Bledsoe of Charlotte, N.C., Fred and Mary Green of Columbia, S.C., Guerry and Fran Green of Pawley’s Island, S.C., Sandra and Tim Gause of Rock Hill, S.C., Jim and Marica Green of Georgetown, S.C., and Lucy and Chris Davis of Charleston, S.C.. He is also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Carol, Louis, and Kathleen Bledsoe, Amy and Laf Green, Jacob Jordan, Jennifer Stipp, Tyler Stipp, Martha, Hayes, and Guerry Green, Travis, Lindsey, and Ryan Gause, and Jim and Robert Green. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Snoots and Richard Howard, and their children Kathee Dowis, Richard Howard, and Beth Howard, his nephew, Thomas Green and his family, niece, Elizabeth Etheredge and her family, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Buddy and Judy Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James Thomas Green and a grandson, Jonathan Tyler Green. Along with his family and many friends, he will be particularly missed by his loyal and devoted four-legged companions, Ginger and Rick. Services to celebrate Fred’s life will be on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. at Old All Saints Church, Waccamaw at Pawley’s Island, S.C., where he has been a life long member. Graveside services will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Officiating will be The Rev. John P. Greene and The Rt. Rev. C. FitzSimons Allison. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Serving as pall bearers are Richard J. Ferdon, Jr., Richard G. Howard, Harold Buckie Elliott, Louis A. Bledsoe, III, Thomas Louis Green, Christopher Michael Davis, Stuart C. Hope and Hampton B. Peace.
