Frederick L. Block (brief) Wilmington, NC N/A Age Approx. Date of Death N/A 12/26/2007 Notice Frederick L. Block, 80, died at home on December 26, 2007. The son of Sadie Stadiem and Nathan E. Block, he was born November 17, 2007, in Wilmington, NC. He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1944 and attended the Citadel, U.N.C., and the University of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 and was stationed in Germany. Fred worked in the family business, Block Shirts, for 35 years, retiring as CEO in 1985. Fred Block is survived by his wife Susan Taylor Block. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeri Fox Block, with whom he had four children. They are: William Bentley Block, and Audra Wetherill Block, Wilmington; Alison Henri Block and Donald D. Getz, of Wilmington; Lynda Leigh Block and Meir Bohbot, of FL; and Barbara Ann Block and William Austin, of Steamboat Springs, CO. He is survived by two step-daughters: Taylor Elizabeth Cromartie, of Wilmington and Catherine Marie Gerdes, of New York City. Five grandchildren: Nathan Oliver-Block and Avery Ruffin Block of Wilmington; and Elijah Fox Block Austin, Jacob George Block Austin, and Joshua Ferguson Block Austin, of Steamboat Springs, CO. Other close family members include Fred’s brother, David E. Block, and his wife Peggy, of Ridgefield, CT; niece Jessica Smith Block and great-nephew, Royce Felton, both of Claremont, California. A private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. Fred’s exuberant toy poodle, Royce, helped entertain him through a long and painful illness.
