Frank W. Glenn, ’73

Play Pause Unmute Mute

Frank Walker Glenn, of Wadmalaw Island, entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of October 21, 2010. Frank was the husband of Katherine Schob Glenn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service Friday, October 29, at noon at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. The family will also receive friends Thursday at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel between 5 and 7 p.m. Mr. Glenn was born August 3, 1948, in Columbia, SC, the son of the late James Wardlaw Glenn and Martha Newman Glenn. He grew up in Allendale and Summerville, SC and raised his family in Charleston before relocating to Atlanta in 1981. He returned to Charleston in 1998 and was currently splitting time between Rockville, SC, and Highlands, NC. He served in Viet Nam as a US Army reconnaissance helicopter pilot. While serving, Frank was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with V Device, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Upon graduating from The Citadel in ’73 with a BS in Business Administration, he started his business career with IBM. Frank then participated in the start up of Cambar Business Systems, a division of Cameron and Barkley, as Vice President of Sales. In 1983, with 4 partners, he founded Matrix Resources, Inc., an IT recruiting and consulting firm in Atlanta, GA where Frank served as Chairman of the Board. Matrix currently employs over 1,400 people in 11 cities. Frank served as an adjunct professor and on the Advisory Board for the School of Business at The Citadel, and as a board member for the Storm Eye Institute at MUSC. He resumed his flying in the early 90’s which inspired him to co-publish a book, “Charleston From Above” in 2007. Both he and his 1947 Piper Cub were a common sight over the skies of Charleston. He was a Big Brother and was awarded Big Brother of the Year. He volunteered for the Small Business Resource Center, and was a mentor for Citadel cadets. He was also a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and The Carolina Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 39 years of Wadmalaw Island, SC; two sons Ryan Walker Glenn and his wife Carmen of Charleston, SC, SPC. James Wardlaw Glenn, U.S. Army of Ft. Campbell, KY; one daughter, Sarah Glenn Smith and her husband Kevin of New York, NY; three brothers, James Wardlaw Glenn, Jr. of Summerville, SC, Mark Newman Glenn of Moncks Corner, SC, and William Hargrove Glenn of Savannah, GA; three grandchildren, Walker Thomas Glenn, Grayson Elizabeth Glenn, Simeon Wardlaw Smith, and his beloved dog, Ollie. Memorials may be made to First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401, or to a charity of your choice in Frank W. Glenn’s name. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Visit our guestbook at www.postandcourier.com/ deaths. Tags: 1973
