Col. Frank W. Atkinson Jr. (Pat), 73, passed away on June 24. He was born in Asheville, NC on September 27, 1930. He graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1952 and was commissioned as an artillery officer. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Pat retired from the Army in 1982 after 30 years of service culminating with his assignment as commander, Range Command, Fort Bliss, Texas. Among his awards and decorations were the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He continued his association with the Army through the Military Officers Association of America and volunteer work with William Beaumont Army Medical Center, the Fort Bliss Museum, and the Fort Bliss Host Family Program. He was active at First Baptist Church of El Paso as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He is survived by his wife, Nam Kil (Peggy); three children (Bill, Jim, Francy) and their spouses; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be at Harding-Orr and McDaniel Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday June 27 and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday June 28. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of El Paso from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday June 28. Pat will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of El Paso Building Fund (805 Montana Ave., El Paso, TX 79902).
