Frank Ronald “Ron” Thrift, 64, died January 5th, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born in Charleston SC on January 23rd, 1944 to the late Frank Thrift and Mary Latimer Thrift. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ron served his country in the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Citadel in 1972. He was a teacher and administrator, and retired as Principal of Hursey Elementary School. His main hobby was his grandchildren, and spending time with friends. He was an active member of North Charleston United Methodist Church. Mr. Thrift is survived by his wife of 42 years: Mary Thomason Thrift of North Charleston SC; daughter: Laura Holt Broach (Jimmy) of Mount Pleasant SC; son: Wesley Thrift (Jennifer) of Charleston SC; grandchildren: Jenna, Madison, and Jay; sisters: Donna Strickland of Lexington SC, and Robin MacDonald of Goose Creek SC; mother: Betty Thrift; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Thrift. Funeral will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8th at North Charleston United Methodist Church, 1125 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston SC 20405. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC 29406. The family is accepting floral tributes, or memorials may be made in Ron Thrift’s honor to North Charleston United Methodist Church.
