PINEHURST, N.C. Francis H. Spears, 87, of Pinehurst, N.C., husband of Kim C. Spears, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his home after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Friends were invited to express their condolences to the family at a casual reception at the Country Club of North Carolina today from 4 until 6. Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Gilead Baptist Church in Jonesville by the Rev. Scott Gilmer. Mr. Spears was born in Jonesville and graduated from The Citadel in Charleston. Upon graduation he went to work for the Coca-Cola Co. His corporate career was interrupted by World War II where he served in Trinidad and the European Theater. After the war he returned to Coca-Cola, holding many management positions throughout the United States. His career spanned 41 years and at the time of his retirement he was senior vice president of Coca-Cola USA. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are two sons, Forrest C. Spears of Genoa, Italy and Graham H. Spears of Atlanta; a daughter, Katherine S. Paul and son-n-law David J. Paul and grandchild, Cameron S. Spears of Atlanta; a brother, James C. Spears and wife Dale of Clinton; plus many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Health Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, N.C., 28374 or to a charity of the donor s choice. Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst is serving the family.
