Flynn Keels Dickson, 82, of Charlotte, died June 15, 2023 at his home, following a brief illness.
Keels was born May 19, 1941, son of Woodrow Wilson Dickson and Virginia Keels Dickson. His family soon moved to Charleston, SC, where Keels grew up and attended the local schools. Keels graduated from The Citadel where he excelled in marksmanship and became an All-American. From there, Keels attended the Medical College of South Carolina and completed an internship in Richmond, VA. He fulfilled a two-year obligation at the Naval Hospital in San Diego.
Moving to Charlotte in 1977, Keels opened a practice as an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist which he enjoyed until his retirement in 2006. He was an active member of Myers Park United Methodist Church and was a member and former president of the Builders Class. He also worked with the church’s VBS for many years. Keels was a member of Carmel Country Club where he loved to play golf. He also enjoyed many trips out west to a number of beautiful ski resorts.
Keels is survived by his loving wife, Joan Ramsey Dickson; daughter Carrie Bezies and her husband, German of Cary, NC, son, Wells Burke and his wife, Kate of Atlanta, GA; stepson, Phillip Newsome of Charlotte; and two step-grandchildren, Alex and Clary Newsome.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Myers Park United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall following the service.
