Eugene Figg, 65, the designer of such bridges as the Sunshine Skyway in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Natchez Trace Parkway Arches near Nashville and the Linn Cove Viaduct in North Carolina, died March 20 in Tallahassee after treatment for leukemia. Mr. Figg, a member of the National Academy of Engineers, was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award in bridge design from the American Society of Civil Engineers. Figg Engineering Group, founded in Tallahassee by Mr. Figg in 1978, has designed bridges in 33 states and four foreign countries, and its work has been featured in numerous publications. The company has won more than 150 design awards, including three Presidential Awards through the National Endowment for the Arts.
