Ernest Samusson, Jr. was born in Rock Hill South Carolina to Ernest Samusson, Senior and Mary Frew Samusson. He was a graduate of the Citadel, in Charleston South Carolina in 1941.
In that same year he married Carol DeVault Franson before leaving for the Pacific Theater in World War II. His distinguished combat record earned him the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
Subsequently he served in Korea, both in the occupation forces and in the Korean Conflict, and as a fact-finder in Vietnam. He retired at the rank of full colonel in 1971 and settled in San Antonio, Texas.
He, and his wife Carol, were long time residents in Windcrest. He was an organizer of the Army Residence Community, and a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church, now know as Crossroads Church, in Windcrest.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Carol Samusson. Colonel Samusson is survived by his daughter Judith Black, son Jon Samusson, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, April 15, 2022 at 11:00AM.
