Erik Jon Schrump of Sebastopol, CA passed away peacefully in his sleep March 31, 2012, after a battle with ALS. He was born in New Haven on March 30, 1963 to Rev. LeRoy and Myra (Wengolin) Schrump. He grew up in Abington and was a member of Pomfret Boy Scout Troop 26 where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1981. He received a full academic scholarship and graduated from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina with a BS in engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi. He went on to work for more than 20 years in the telecom industry, on large undertakings with Verizon, BellSouth, DSC Communications and Alcatel. Erik served in a variety of engineering & management capacities at Verizon Communications as overall manager for the Verizon telecom network replacement in Boston due to “The Big Dig”, as well as the initial video trials with Switched Digital Video. While at DSC/Alcatel, Erik was the Area Vice President responsible for the overall business management of the Alcatel Litespan division. During Erik’s tenure at Alcatel, the Litespan platform became the premier remote DSL platform in North America. Upon retiring from the telecom industry Erik became the Senior Telecommunications Analyst for Inflection Point Research. He earned his private pilot’s license and loved flying along the coast of California. He was an avid hiker and bike rider around Bodega Bay in California. He enjoyed playing golf on the many beautiful golf courses throughout the world. Throughout his life Erik continued to support the Pomfret Boy Scout Troop and the Abington Congregational Church. Erik was predeceased by his father, Rev. LeRoy Schrump, his brother, Walter H. Schrump and a great nephew. He is survived by his mother, Myra Schrump of Woodstock, his brothers, Dr. David Schrump and his wife, Brenda, of Potomac, MD, Donald Schrump and his wife, Valarie, of Putnam his sisters, Nancy Baker and her husband, Edmund, of Schertz, TX and Susan Brown of Plainfied along with many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at a later time. Donations may be made in Erik’s name to Boy Scouts of America Troop 26 in care of Marshall Eaton, Box 103, Pomfret Ctr. CT. 06259. Tags: 1986
