LOUISVILLE – Major Eli O. Jackson Jr., 83, Louisville, died Mon., Dec. 12, 2005, at home, surrounded by family. Born at Pine Park Place, The family farm in Shelby County, he graduated from Eminence High School, then attended The Citadel until leaving proudly to serve in WWII. He graduated from the University of Kentucky and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity for over 50 years. Mr. Jackson was a member of New Goshen Presbyterian Church. He was a life-long farmer and enjoyed raising thoroughbred horses. He retired recently from Holiday Cleaners where he loved his job. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eli Jackson Sr. and Aph Pryor Phelps Jackson, and his wife Mary Odell Jackson, a brother, Laban Jackson and a sister, Laura Jackson Keller. Survivors include five children, Robin Odell Jackson of Columbia, SC, Emilie J. and Robert O. Collins Jr. of Charlestown, SC, Dr. Eli Oldham Jackson III of Bowling Green, Rebecca Aph J. and Richard (Rack) C. Edwins of Lexington, and Irene LaSalle J. and James Howard of Ft. Bragg, CA; grandchildren, Emilie Collins Murphy, Molly Forcade Collins, Lucy Pryor Collins, Robert Owen Collins III, Elizabeth Bennett Jackson, Eli Oldham Jackson IV, Pryor Phelps Odell Jackson, Laura Pryor Edwins, Rebecca Clay Edwins, Robert Eli Vanetta, Peter Howard, and Reuben Howard. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Wed., Dec. 14, 2005 at the New Goshen Presbyterian Church, 12900 West Hwy. 42, Prospect, KY. with visiting to follow the service. A private graveside service will be in Eminence, KY. Memorials may go to his church or Hospice of Louisville. Pearson Funeral Home in charge.
