Eldon Gilbert “Mike” Brown, of Coral Gables, Florida passed away on May 15, 2017. Eldon was born on March 15, 1938 and graduated from Rutherford High School, Rutherford, NJ. He was well liked for his sociability, athletic prowess and was Vice President of his high school class. Eldon is survived by his two sisters, Lee Frances Brown and Susan Ann Napotano and a sister Maureen Wehrmann who predeceased him.
Eldon went on to the Citadel in Charleston, SC where he graduated in 1962 with a BS Degree. Degrees also include: Florida Int’l. University – BA in History and studies at UCLA and Maine.
He then joined the Peace Corp and was assigned to Jamaica, West Indies to teach school and train young hopefuls for the Olympics in swimming.
Eldon’s business career was spent in the airline air cargo industry where before retiring, he was Cargo Manager of Northwest and earlier Cargo Manager of Japan Airlines. He had stints in Washington, DC as well as New York City.
His wife, Yvette, ran their travel agency, Whale Travel, Inc. and they traveled extensively throughout the world prior to Yvette’s untimely demise in 2009.
Eldon had a hidden talent that became known some 5 years ago, that of being a published Author. His books include: Controlled Crash, A Devil in the Drone, Dead Girl in a Charleston Marsh and Miyuki, A Harvard Girl.
A Mass for Eldon was given on June 3rd at St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Palmetto Bay. There was also a remembrance/wake held at the Captain’s Tavern in Miami.
