On Satuday, January 29, 2022, Edward Magee (“Sonny”) Tracy, Jr., passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
For fifty years, Sonny and wife Angelynne transcended their vows to love, honor, and cherish and were lifelong sweethearts, soul mates, best friends, confidants, caretakers and partners. Their story is fairytale: dashing Citadel cadet meets alluring Ashley Hall belle. Love blossoms, blooms, builds, booms. Magic.
Sonny’s career reflected his values and passions: Air Force Officer, home builder and logistics professional (for 20 years). Sonny’s professional calling in a nutshell: serve, shelter and supply.
Sonny took boundless pride in his sons, which was amply reciprocated.
Tripp, the elder, a pathologist, is a loving husband and father, a skilled and respected professional, wonderful and worthy in myriad ways. Sonny’s family will recall him primarily as his Dad’s indefatigable defender. Tripp, his wife Elizabeth and Sonny’s darling granddaughters, Izzie and Elin Ann, live in Charleston.
Andrew, the younger, a sound designer, has been recognized for his intense passion, which family members recognize as “Andrew channeling Sonny.” Andrew is the owner of a global creative studio that he created with his wife, Laura. Andrew resides in Portugal with Laura and Sonny’s precious grandsons, Fox and Axel.
Sonny’s loved ones – Angelynne; Tripp (Elizabeth) and Andrew (Laura); grandchildren, Izzie, Elin Ann, Fox and Axel, et al – and older sister, Sheila (David); brothers, Mark (Roseann) and Arthur (Linda) and baby sister, Clotilde (Seth); brother-in-law, John and their families, knew Sonny as a gentleman and a gentle man, determined, optimistic, sometimes stubborn, always kind, caring, loving, easygoing, but strong as steel, a lover of cats, music, chocolate milkshakes, God, family, and above all, life.
Always honorable, rarely cross, subtly comic and the kind of husband, father, grandfather, sibling, colleague and friend who set the bar high, Sonny was truly a man in full. In closing most conversations with his children, even as adults, he would end with words that can and should be taken to heart and applied by all who hear them: Be good.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island.
The family requests that masks covering the nose and mouth be worn by all attending the service.
Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc. (843) 766-1365.
