Edward Franklin Hanes, Sr., of Charleston, entered into eternal rest the afternoon of Saturday, March 13, 2010, Edward Franklin Hanes, Sr. of Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Hanes, Sr. are invited to attend the funeral service of the former Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at two-thirty o’clock. Burial services will be conducted later in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday in Stuhr’s West Ashley Chapel, from one o’clock until the time of the service. Born April 2, 1931 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Edward was the son of the late Floyd Franklin Hanes and Edith Hudson Hanes. He was a graduate of The Citadel Class of 1958 and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. Hanes was the retired Sales Manager of Concrete Products Co. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston and Past President and Director of the SC Masonry Association. Surviving Mr. Hanes are his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Gilliam Hanes of Charleston; a son, Edward F. ‘Chip’ Hanes, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Robert F. Hanes of Sumter, SC and a granddaughter, Amy of Virginia Beach, VA. Memorials may be to Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
