Edward Earl Smith, Jr., 67, of Summerville, SC, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Summerville Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2013 at 2 o’clock at Summerville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 South Laurel St., Summerville, SC 29483 or The Village at Summerville -PCSC, 201 W. 9th North St., Summerville, SC 29483. Mr. Smith was born December 19, 1945 in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Edward Earl Smith, Sr. and Marjorie Ellen Thornley Smith. He played football for 3 years under John McKissick and played saxophone for SHS band. He graduated from Summerville High School and the College of Charleston. He received his Masters Degree from The Citadel and his Graduate Banking degree from Rutgers University. He was also a retired Vice President for Spartanburg National Bank. Mr. Smith was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church, and he was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was a founder and first President of Flowertown Players. He performed with the Charleston Footlight Players and other theaters. He was a Mason. Survivors include two sons, Edward Earl “Trey” Smith, III of Santa Cruz, CA and Matthew Todd Smith (Holly) of James Island; two grandsons, August T. Smith and Mylo W. Smith, both of James Island; one brother, Johnny Smith (Joanne) of Summerville, and several nieces and nephews.
