Edward Dennis Dobson Sr., 83, of 103 W. Bearden St., died Feb. 27, 2004, at Allen Bennett Hospital. A native of Greer, son of the late Ruel Dennis and Virginia Hutchings Dobson, he was the former owner of Dobson Lumber Co., director of the Bank Of Greer, United Carolina Bank and an original board member of Greer First Federal Savings and Loan. He was a World War II Army veteran with the rank of captain in the 54th Coast Artillery and G-3 section general’s staff 6th Army H.Q. in the Pacific. Mr. Dobson graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. degree in business administration and was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and Staff School, and also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville, S.C. Surviving are his wife, Frances McGill Dobson, of the home; a son, Edward Dennis Dobson Jr., of Greenville; a daughter, Deborah Dobson Moore, of Greer; and grandchildren, Jonathan Lyons Dobson of San Francisco, California, and Scott Emory Moore of Greer. Mr. Dobson was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Virginia D. Dillard; and a grandson, Allan McGill Dobson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greenville, conducted by the Rev. Ludwig Weaver, the Rev. Steve Vance and the Rev. Barbara Stoop. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Greer. Pallbearers will be Bill Harrill, Alan Mayfield, Mike Mayfield, Paul Weathers, Steve Weathers and Mark Weathers. Honorary escort will be Dr. Bill Weathers, Tommy Mayfield, Sam Clayton, Gene Gibson, Conrad Robertson, Dr. Charles Webb, Dr. Bingham Vick, Chuck Sprung, Elliott Dodson, Ronnie Knight, Dr. Paul Peeples and Dr. John Milas.
