Edward B. (Buzz) Purcell Jr., 95, Saturday, December 26th, 2020. Born in Newberry, SC, he was the son of the late Mr. Edward B. Purcell Sr. and Mrs. Trent Keitt Purcell. A graduate of The Citadel and University of South Carolina School of Law, Mr. Purcell practiced law in Lexington with the firm of Rawl, Purcell and Harman, retiring in 1989. He was a past president of the Lexington County Bar Association. A former Navy fighter pilot, Mr. Purcell was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and his decorations included the Air Medal and Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, The Palmetto Club, the VFW, Fort Jackson Officers Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Quiet Birdman, Pelion Airport Advisory Commission and the Military Order of World Wars. He was also a former member of Patriots Point Authority and the U.S.S. Yorktown Association (serving as legal counsel). Mr. Purcell is survived by his wife, Ann Going Purcell; daughter, Mary Ann Ridgeway (Michael), their 3 children Jordan, Nathan and Gracie; son, Edward B. Purcell, III (Tara), their children Jensen and Edward B. (Fin) Purcell, IV. Buzz was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, Lake Murray, and everyone he met. Buzz was a true entertainer, in hospitality and wit. He continued to learn throughout his life and enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 506 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072 Rev. C. Chris Clements officiating. Following the chapel service, there will be a drive-by visitation for those who wish to participate. Burial at Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church Memorial Gardens will follow at a later date. Services will be livestreamed through the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home-Lexington Chapel Facebook Page and are accessible without a Facebook Profile.
