Douglas W. McMann, 49, of Simsbury, CT, beloved husband of Angelika (Maier) McMann, passed away suddenly, Sunday, October 26, 2014. Born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Walter C. McMann and Dorothy J. (Sagle) McMann of Baltimore, he was raised in Maryland and received his BS in Physics from The Citadel, Charleston, SC. He earned the rank of Captain serving in the US Army during Desert Storm and then earned his BSE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He was employed as an engineer for the Indian Head Naval Base in southern Maryland before joining the Ensign Bickford Aerospace and Defense Co, Simsbury in 2000. He was active with the Simsbury Special Olympics, coaching bowling and golf with his son Michael. Besides his wife Angelika and mother Dorothy; he leaves two sons Michael T. McMann and D. Clayton McMann; his daughter Emily G. McMann all at home in Simsbury; two sisters, Carleen Crostic of Southport, NC and Barbara Lenzenweger of Pasadena, MD; and 7 nieces and nephews.
Douglas’ final generous act was to give the gift of life through tissue donation. His family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 from 2-4 PM followed by a service at 4 PM concluding with military honors at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon.
