Douglas Newcomb Grize, 73, of Marietta, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 19, 1942, in Brockton, Mass., a son of the late Stanley and Shirley Elsmore Grize.
Doug was a 1960 graduate of Brockton High School, was appointed to The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina, and graduated in 1964. In 1979 he received an MBA from Central Michigan. In 1964, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and served as a combat navigator in Vietnam. After a successful career, Doug retired in 1989 from the U.S. Air Force as Lt. Colonel while serving in the Pentagon. He served as the Economic Development Director for Washington County from 2000-2005. Doug was an active member of Fairview Heights Chapel on Harmar Hill and volunteered for the Gospel Mission.
On May 17, 1968, he married Judith Pieh who survives with their daughter, Kari Rice of Parkersburg, W.Va., and son, Justin Grize of Brighton, England; grandson, Carter Rice of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and sister, Linton Cahill of Scituate, Mass.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at Fairview Heights Chapel. Family will greet friends at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full honors.
