GILG, SR., Donald Donald Roger Gilg, Sr., 72, died November 26, 2004, in Wilson, N.C., where he had resided for the past four years. Born September 12, 1932, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Frank Xavier Gilg and Helen Tatnall Gilg. Known to all his friends at Roger, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Japan from 1952 to 1955 and returned to Charleston and completed his education and graduated in Civil Engineering from the Citadel in 1958 and married Frances S. (Julie) Gilg. During his professional career he had been employed by Burns and Roe, in New Jersey; Westinghouse, Nuclear Power Division, in New York City, and Babcock and Wilcox in New York City, and represented these companies worldwide. He later returned to Charleston and was a member and employed by Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Mr. Gilg was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rev. Lawrence McLaughlin, #9475 and served as Deputy Grand Knight. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Van Sant Gilg of Wilson, N.C.; one son, Frank X. Gilg, III, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two daughters, Dr. Anne Genevieve Gilg, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Helen Anne Gilg of Atlanta, Ga.; two step-children, Johnnie Sue King and Richard C. King, both of Wilson, N.C., and one grandchild, Dana Leigh Grace Gilg. He was predeceased by his son Donald Roger Gilg, Jr., and one brother Frank Tatnall Gilg. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 25, 2005, at 11 a.m., Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, S.C. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Our King Community Life Center, 1149 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, S.C. 29464. Private inurnment will be in Beaufort National Cemetery.
