Donald J. Myers Sr., of Savannah, Ga., humble servant and loving family man, died in Savannah on April 2, 2012 after a prolonged illness. He was born to the late John and Berenice Myers in Charleston, SC. Donald graduated from the Citadel in 1954 then received a Bachelor of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1958. He married Marlene Wessel in 1954. Donald was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Savannah. Donald is survived by his immediate and extended family: wife, Marlene Myers, of Savannah; four children: Donna Mammele of Norfolk, VA; “Jay” Myers of White House, TN; Linda Estes of Midway, GA; Sara Gross of Stafford, VA; seven grandchildren: Brittany Myers, Alyssa Myers, Ashlyn Myers and “J.C.” Myers of White House, TN; Katie Gross, Mat Gross, Teddy Gross of Stafford, VA; nieces Debbie Syrett, Ginny Martin, Cynthia Hopkins, and nephew Trey Hopkins. Donald was dedicated to supporting the International Village of Hope. TIVOH (www.tivoh.org) is a not-for-profit organization that supports Christian mission programs in Haiti, to include “The Savannah School”. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Donald J. Myers be redirected to this worthwhile organization. A celebration of Donald’s life will be held in June.
