Donald Harris Jones, 74, died on October 16, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born September 5, 1935, in Sharpsburg, NC to the late Millard S. and Carro Harris Jones. He attended high school in Rocky Mount, NC and Charleston, SC, and graduated from the Citadel with a BS degree in Commerce. He was predeceased by his brother Millard S. Jones, of Whiteville, NC. He is survived by his wife Mary (Joey) M. Jones, of the home, and his sons Donald H Jones, Jr., and his wife Sharon, and their son Jarod; Mark Bryant Jones, and his children, Stephen, Tiffany and Tammy; Suzanne Rabon, and husband Curtis, and their children, Randi, Kelli, and Jeffery, of Ladson, SC; Mary Devine, and husband Daniel, and their children, Zackary and Lindsay, of Raleigh, NC; and James S. Jones, and wife Brenda, and their children, Taylor and Emily, of Ladson, SC.; sister-in-law Anne Jones, of Whiteville, NC.; nephew, Millard L. Jones, of Birmingham, AL.; brother-in-law Lynn McIver, and wife Lucy Grasty, of Charlotte, NC.; and sister-in-law Anne Miller, and husband Gary, of Lighthouse Point, Fl. Following graduation from the Citadel, he worked for the State of North Carolina departments of Revenue, Justice, and SBI until his retirement in 1991. After retirement Don worked for the North Carolina State Bar, where he served as Director of Investigation. During his career with the State, Don was active in the State Employee’s Association, served as the Association’s president for three terms, was honored as the Association’s Employee of the Year, and organized the Association’s annual golf tournament in Southern Pines, NC. Don was an avid golfer and charter member of the TPC at Wakefield. The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors and staff at Lineberger Cancer Institute in Chapel Hill, NC and Hospice of Wake County. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Lineberger Cancer Institute and Hospice of Wake County. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at North Raleigh United Methodist Church on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 2:00pm, his family will receive friends following the service.
