Dexter Hudson Sr., COLUMBIA – A service to celebrate the life of Dexter Dupre Hudson Sr., age 81, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 827 Wildwood Ave., conducted by Pastor Ron Brown. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Winnsboro. The family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church or to a charity of one’s choice. Mr. Hudson died at his home on Monday, May 5, 2008, after a year-long battle with cancer. Son of the late James C. and Sallie Branham Hudson, he was born on December 19, 1926, in Chester, SC. He was a graduate of The Citadel and earned a graduate degree from the LSU School of Banking. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of The Citadel Summerall Club. Along with his wife Ava, he was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church for over 40 years and was fortunate to have served in many capacities which included church treasurer and member of the church council. Mr. Hudson worked in the banking industry and served for over 40 years as a federal bank examiner with the FDIC. He retired in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Avalea W. Hudson; two sons, Dexter D. Hudson Jr. and his wife Tanya of Lexington, and D. Steven Hudson and his wife Marian of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Tripp Hudson, Travis Hudson, Allison Lane and Steve Hudson; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hudson was predeceased by two brothers, James Ross Hudson and John Watson (J.W.) Hudson. Pope Funeral Home of Winnsboro is serving the Hudson family. Tags: 1954
