David W. Brown, 84, of Rockport, Mass., beloved brother and uncle, passed away with his family by his side at Beverly Hospital on Wednesday, July 1st after a short illness.
He was born in Gloucester on May 11, 1942, to the late Myron W. Brown and Helen (MacDonald) Porter. He was a graduate of GHS, class of 1960. He then attended The Citadel, the Military College of Charleston, South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in business in 1964.
David began his career at Dunn & Bradstreet in Boston and later as a manager at Cumberland of Rockport. Later he retired from Jordan Marsh.
With deep roots in Rockport, he often enjoyed walks by the ocean off Long Beach. For many years, he has escaped New England winters by spending six months of the year in Cozumel, Mexico. He enjoyed the beaches and touring the island on his bike.
He was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather, Captain William Porter, his nephew, Stephen B. Whitney, and his brother-in-law, Hugh Parkhurst.
He is survived by his sisters, Leslie Parkhurst and Lindsay Pierce; brother-in-law, Brad Pierce; nephews, Sean Burns and Cody Burns; nieces, Sally Whitney, Alison P. Bell (Steve); and step nephew, Hugh Parkhurst III.
