David Robert Carroll, of Mariemont, OH, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died peacefully July 24, 2009 after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. He was born January 3, 1937 in Charlotte, to the late J. Robert and Mable O’Shields Carroll. A graduate of Charlotte Central High School Class of 1956, he attended college at the Citadel, and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, SC, where he met his loving wife of 49 years, Florence Blackwood Carroll. David had a long career in corporate sales, living and working in various states. He retired from Sonoco Products of Hartsville, SC. His interests included golfing, community theater, singing and modeling. He was a charter member of several civic organizations and was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. In 2001, he moved to the Cincinnati area to watch his grandchildren grow. There he became a dedicated volunteer for Christ Hospital, where he was instrumental in founding Heart Works, a heart failure support group, which helps to comfort and educate patients and their families about heart disease. He received recognition and awards for his efforts. David was a loving husband, and a devoted father of daughters, Cindy Tennant (Greg) of Rock Hill, SC and Katy Wayne (Collin) of Cincinnati, OH, and the cherished grandfather of Hannah and Max Wayne. He is survived by three siblings, Jacque (Carl) Westbrook of Charlotte, NC, Tommy (Libby) Carroll of Terrell, NC and Dr. Anne Baird of Atlanta, GA, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. The lives of his family and countless friends will continue to be strengthened through his uncommon love and enthusiasm for life, his genuine compassion, persistent smile and infectious laughter. A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12th at The Little Church on the Lane, 522 Moravian Lane, Charlotte, NC 28207.
