David L. Burrier, ’08

Major David Lee Burrier, 37, loving husband of Hunter Johnson Burrier, entered into rest on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

David was born in Thurmont, Maryland, on May 8, 1986. He had an active childhood and attended Catoctin High School, where he played football and lacrosse. Upon graduation, he attended The Citadel and earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 2008. He met the love of his life, Hunter Johnson, while in college. Though not a student at her school, Hunter’s college provided a “typical” college experience that was unavailable to him at a military institution. He tagged along with a roommate on a weekend trip to Coastal Carolina University, where he met Hunter through a mutual friend, and the two were immediately drawn to each other. They dated through college and married at the beach on the island in September of 2009.

Major David Lee Burrier, a stalwart of the airborne community at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, dedicated his life to service. He served in the 20th Engineer Brigade, where he honed his skills as a master parachutist and earned his German jump wings. His commitment took him to Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Combat Action Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. His illustrious career was adorned with two Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, and numerous other awards commensurate with his service. Even after his retirement in 2022, he continued to serve in a civilian capacity as a Cost Analyst for the Cyber Center of Excellence and Army Cyber Command as a force manager.

David’s commitment to his country was matched only by his devotion to his family. His wife and children were his world, and he especially enjoyed attending the boys’ sporting events. He took immense pride in raising his children and was so proud of the kind, smart young men of character they were becoming. His boys thought of him and will always think of him as their hero. David was a dedicated and tried and true Maryland Terps and San Francisco 49ers fan. He had a love of the outdoors, especially 4-wheeling and hunting, which he shared with his family and friends. David had a strong desire to stay busy and was always willing to help or take the lead to complete his mission, whether at home or at work.

In addition to his family, David’s faith and his church, Journey Community Church, brought him comfort, peace, and joy. Even in his darkest moments, his church was a refuge and a strength to him.

David will be missed by his wife of 15 years, Hunter Johnson Burrier; children, Mason Lee Burrier and Cooper Michael Burrier; parents Lonnie and Barbara Burrier; brother Brian Burrier (Jennifer); parents-in-law Libby and Mike Johnson; sister-in-law, Rylie Johnson (Kenya); nephews Jayce Burrier and Tre Smith, niece Rylen Johnson, beloved grandmother, Cathy Luteri, as well as many extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Noah Burrier and grandparents, Jack Luteri, Lester and Lillian Burrier.

A memorial service will be held at Journey Community Church (4798 Hardy McManus Rd, Evans, GA) with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating and Chaplain Darren Chester assisting on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

There will be an informal reception following the funeral in the fellowship hall of Journey Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mason and Cooper Burrier College Fund.
