David John McCoy, 73, of South Windsor, Conn., beloved husband of Jean (Boysen) McCoy, died Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his home, with family at his side. He was born November 12, 1951 in Norwich, CT son of the late Robert and Helena (O’Hearn) McCoy. David lived in several places throughout his life, including Glastonbury, CT, Charleston, SC, and Manchester, CT, before settling in South Windsor 34 years ago. He graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1970 before continuing his education at The Citadel, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration as a proud member of the Class of 1974. David was a Fiscal Administrative Supervisor for the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation for 34 years prior to his retirement and was an active member of the A&R Union. A 12-year recipient of a life-saving lung transplant, David demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience, with the unwavering support of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital transplant team.
David was an avid fan of the New York Mets and the New York Jets and he enjoyed learning and reading about history. He had a lifelong passion for technology; starting with computers in his younger years and always staying ahead of the curve with the latest gadgets. Family was also at the heart of his life, with memorable pool parties bringing everyone together for laughter and joy. A natural problem solver, David was also known for his practical skills, mastering basic electrical and plumbing work. David had a deep love for dogs, especially Labrador Retrievers, and was a devoted owner of several over the years. His blend of curiosity, creativity, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife, Jean, of 41 years, he is survived by his children, Andrew McCoy and wife Danielle of Ellington and Katelyn Patrick and husband Andrew of Wethersfield; his grandchildren, Emma Stevenson-McCoy, Rowan Patrick, and Remy and Briar McCoy; his brother, Robert McCoy and wife Kathey of Norwich; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved black lab, Maggie. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel McCoy.
Calling hours will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, January 10th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 11th. Burial will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
