Memorial services for Dr. David Young, Ph.D, M.D., will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Wayne Fletcher officiating and Reverend George Gennuso serving as eulogist, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria. Interment will follow at a later date.
David Carroll Young, of Dry Prong, La., husband of Mary Rowan Young, died on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Born at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, he was the son of the late Zellner C. Young and the late Mary Adcock Young. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Young Campbell.
David earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Microbiology at Tulane University in New Orleans and a Doctorate of Medicine from LSU – New Orleans. He served at the Alexandria VA Medical Center as a Pathologist and retired in October 2017.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Pineville.
David was a loving and devoted husband. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked running, exercise, and working in his garden. In his youth, he was an accomplished athlete who was a member and a starter on the 1969 Savannah Country Day School football team that won the Georgia State Championship.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife, include his sister, Mary Beth Freskos of Clayton, Missouri; his brother, Joseph Daniel Young of Atlanta, Georgia, his sister-in-law, Vjollca Prroni Young of Atlanta, Georgia; his niece, Margaret Campbell Lerner of Mobile, Alabama; his nephew, Aaron James Campbell of Dallas, Texas as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Edgewood Drive, Pineville, LA or a favorite charity.
