Curtis Allen Ritter, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 5, 2015 at home. He was the son of the late Curtis G. and Anne Ritter of James Island, SC. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Jean Youngblood Ritter, who has been faithful to demonstrate her vow of “in sickness and in health.” He is also survived by two sons and their families, Kyle and Suzy Ritter and their children, Drew, of Newnan Georgia, Patrick, of Birmingham and Caroline of Starkville, Mississippi; Allen and Janice Ritter of Birmingham and their children Dr. Beth Ritter-Conn and her husband Jordan of Nashville, TN and Daniel of Washington, DC. Curtis was a graduate of Rivers High School in Charleston and The Citadel, Class of 1956. He served as a First Lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He spent over 30 years working for Bell Laboratories and BellSouth Corporation. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He and his wife were committed to several churches in different places throughout their marriage; serving in a variety of roles at different times including as an ordained deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. They have been very active members at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, for many years. A graveside service for Mr. Ritter will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Holy Cross Cemetery in James Island, South Carolina. Serving as pallbearers will be Will, Todd and Jay Youngblood, Lawrence and Basil Lucas, Patrick and Drew Ritter and Jordan Conn. A memorial service to celebrate the life and influence of Curtis Ritter will be held on Tuesday evening, June 16th at 6:00 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 5:00. A time of fellowship will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, PO Box 21833, Charleston, SC 29464.
