DALTON — Craig Seagrave Kelly, 56, of 5 Ascot Ridge Court, Irmo, S.C., formerly of Dalton, died Friday at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C., after a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 3, 1947, son of Geraldine Seagrave Kelly of Dalton and the late Clifford Arthur Kelly, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. He also was a 1969 graduate of the Citadel in Charleston, S.C., where he majored in history and was a distinguished military student. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1973. After graduating from the Citadel, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army and served until 1979. Mr. Kelly was a practicing attorney and an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law and an assistant professor at the university’s School of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Sports Lawyers and Lexington County Bar associations, and the National Sports Law Institute. He and his wife, the former Cheryl Rae Cobb, were married June 6, 1970, in the Church of the Advent in Norfolk, Va. Besides his mother and wife, he leaves a son, Kevin Seagrave Kelly of Columbia; two brothers, Ford D. Kelly of Hinsdale and Jonathan D. Kelly of Holyoke, and a sister, Laurie A. Kelly of Narragansett, R.I.
